Make Do Sunday Clothes Pin Holder

It bugs me when I forget
the pins and find this
Or this.
I used to use a gallon milk jug with a slit in the handle
and the center cut out for the pins.
Even with a few holes in the bottom,
it still held water if I forgot it outside in the rain.
(yes I know, bring it in each time!)
After slicing my hand on the edge a few times
it went in the recycle bin.

Years ago (just a few)
my Mom had a hanging bag made from a hanger,
bent in a loop with a bag sewn
over the wire
I thought this would be a bit more eye catching
so I wouldn't forget it out side!
A quick 2 minute project
I re purposed one of Isaiah's outgrown shirts, this happens to be a size 3
(but I would think 24 months & up would work,
what ever would meet your needs)

I stitched the bottom closed
It has split sides so I just stitched above that

Placed it on a sturdy child size hanger
and tacked at the shoulders
over the hanger to hold it on
(you can see my threads hanging)

I did not stitch the front placket closed
so I would have easier access as the
pins were used

button up & load with pins!
This size holds approximately 200 pins quite easily

I'm sure Martha would not approve
but it works for me!
If you try it, make sure you link back so I can see how yours turned out!

  1. My great-grandma sewed something like this from a pattern (back in the fifties maybe?). I have it around here somewhere. I hope I can find it and I'll photograph it. I like the shirt you chose! It will make doing laundry a happy time rather than a chore (ok, maybe not!)

  2. I remember similar pin holders from my childhood. As an adult my husband hates clothes hanging outside. Consequently I do not have a line. I sometimes hang things I do not want in the dryer on hangers out in my trees. He never passes up the chance to comment if they are still out when he comes home from work. Silly man.

  3. Great Idea! Now if only I had a clothesline. We have way too much shade for anything other than one of those umbrella style ones.

I am not crafty, nor do I hang clothes outside. This makes me kinda wish I was/did! :o)

  9. very inventive. I had a wire bag when we had a clothes line. I haven't had the clothes line for years now. I miss the fresh smell.
