Squirreling It Away

 

I was up early this morning watering in the garden when the sun came up.

If you lived here you would be laughing as I am so not. a. morning. person.  I may be up early but I usually need at least 30 minutes for my body to realize it’s upright and my brain to kick in.

The garden is on it’s last legs and although they were forecasting rain for the day the air had that hahahahaha rain smell.  The teasing smell that comes with overcast skies…..and that’s it. No rain.  So I was watering hoping Murphy’s law would kick in and we would get a soaker. When I was turning the water off just past sunrise I heard an awful racket behind the house and thud thud thud noises.  As I came through the patio to to see what was going on I heard a loud metallic bang …What the heck?!?!?

They were were fighting up in the trees & the walnuts were dropping and hitting the wood pile and propane tank,  I laughed so hard watching their antics.

 

There were about 10 of them stealing from each other, while knocking even more off the tree.  Made my mornings work easier.  I filled my bowl while they screeched and chattered at me like monkeys from the trees.

This is all I was able to gather today, the tree is still loaded so I’m hoping to have gathered more before I start hulling them.  A few years ago I’d gathered enough to half fill a pillowcase and would turn it every few days while they dried only to realize the squirrels had chewed a hole in the bottom and stolen over half that I’d gathered! 

I’m keeping a better eye out this year…those pesky wabbits squirrels!

Blood Pressure Check!

Our oldest daughter Danielle and bonus daughter Katie took off to St Louis last Friday for a extended girls weekend .  They both needed a break and this was a perfect time.  The goal was a spending free weekend other than hotel room and food. They had a blast! 

They ran out of time and have a huge list of things to do next time but this is a short message & photo I received

“"I was in the drivers seat of that bus!!!! Almost ralphed and my knees were knocking!”

Now, to get the full effect of my blood pressure check…click on the photo to enlarge it……

As it turns out the zoo was offering free admission & this is a well known (by others) interactive display.

Garden Seating

I love my flower gardens, the weeding mulching and separating.  So rewarding to watch them mature year by year.  I keep promising myself a bench of some sort  but have yet to make the purchase.    I generally have them under control by the time the veggie garden is started but,  This year with our early spring they’ve gotten out of control. 

So, as an incentive for myself to get them cleaned up I’m making that frivolous purchase! 

As I’ve been working I’ve been trying to define exactly what I want because ….well,  I’m going to have to look at it for years….

This is my list of “must’s”… 

1. Portable so it can easily be moved about…nothing to heavy

2.  a classic style

3. sturdy enough to hold up for years

4.  a style that will be fun and functional …one I have the option of painting bright and bold or, soft and elegant…( *snort* elegant…as if in my garden)

I’ve found concrete, wood, iron, stone and plastic seating with prices from the flimsy $30.00 to sticker shock of  $3,000. 00

But, I’ve found my seating, one that fits all my requirements

A little Lenten Holy Humor

Pastor's Business Card

A new pastor was visiting in the homes of his parishioners.

At one house it seemed obvious that someone was at home, but no answer came to his repeated knocks at the door. Therefore, he took out a business card and wrote "Revelation 3:20" on the back of it and stuck it in the door.

When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found that his card had been returned. Added to it was this cryptic message, "Genesis3:10."Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, he broke up in gales of laughter.

Revelation 3:20 begins "Behold, I stand at the door and knock."

Genesis 3:10 reads,

"I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid for I was naked."

Remember when the funniest jokes were the clean ones? They still are!"A cheerful heart is good medicine" (Prov. 17:22) Now, pass it on!
